oNMENT <br /> PA-RAKER <br /> SERV 1Cti5 <br /> 's <br /> Project 226-01-01 <br /> February 11, 2002 CP <br /> Ms. Michelle Sterni—Le <br /> Environmental Health Specialist <br /> San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division <br /> 304 East Weber Ave. <br /> Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> Subject: Soil Sampling under Pumps and Piping at City of Lodi Maintenance <br /> Facility, 1331 South Ham Street, Lodi, California <br /> Dear Ms. Sterni—Li: <br /> This letter documents the soil sampling and sample analysis associated with the <br /> removal of gasoline pumps and lines at the subject site. <br /> Sample Collection <br /> Soil sampling was done on February 1, 2002 under the observation of Ms. Michelle <br /> Sterni—Le from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division. <br /> The soil samples were obtained from underneath each of the three former pump <br /> locations and at two points along the fuel lines from the tanks (see the attached figure). <br /> Pea gravel was removed from under the concrete island to about 2 feet below grade <br /> surface (BGS) where native soil began. A 4-inch diameter hand auger was used to drill <br /> to approximately two feet into the native soil. Once that depth was reached, a sampling <br /> shoe with a clean brass tube insert was hammered into the native soil to obtain the <br /> samples. Total sampling depth was about four feet BGS. Aluminum foil and plastic caps <br /> were placed over the tube ends. The tubes were then labeled and placed on ice for <br /> transport to the testing laboratory for certified chemical analysis. No petroleum <br /> hydrocarbon odors were noted during sampling. No composite sample was taken of <br /> the soil because all removed materials were pea gravel. A chain of custody form <br /> accompanied the samples to the lab. <br /> No groundwater was encountered to a depth of 4 feet BGS during sampling.
