IL J
VUNITED PACIFIe
ENVIRONMENTAL
MANAGEMENT&CONSULTING SERVICES
2699 E. 28TH ST., SUITE#405
SIGNAL HILL, CA 90806
S62 (RO)981-3346
(3-W 427-5806 Fax
October 13, 1997
Ms. Margaret Lagorio
Remediation Unit#4
San Joaquin County, Public Health Services
PO Box 388
Stockton, CA 95201-0388
AND VIA FAX (209) 468-3433 P
RE: Certified Grocers of Stockton - Abandoned Pipeline and Dispenser Sampling.
Dear Ms. Lagorio:
Thank you for your continued assistance with the above project. This letter is in reference
to the soil sampling of the abandoned pipeline and former dispenser that was discovered
after the removal of the underground tank. Information regarding the removal of the tank
was forwarded to your office earlier today.
This pipeline and dispenser was abandoned in years past and should not be confused with
the dispenser and piping which was removed on September 25, 1997.
Attached is the site layout map showing the location of the abandoned pipeline, the former
dispenser and the soil samples which were obtained at the request of Ms. Briggs.
As noted from the attached layout map, the area to the east reveals low levels of
contamination. This area around sample P-7, we would like to propose excavation of the
area, further soil sampling, and hopefully confirmation of extent. The sampling locations
to the west end are either non-detect or very low level which do not require attention.
Excavation will be performed downward and outward in each lateral direction. We
estimate the amount of soil to be excavated in the 15 -25 cubic yard range. In the event
that the quantity become significantly greater than estimated, your agency will be contacted .
for further notification and status report.
The excavation will be guided by use of actual field observations and an OVA. Limits of
soil contamination will be confirmed by soil sampling in each of the four walls along with
the floor of the excavation. All excavation and soil sampling work will be supervised by a
representative of Advanced GeoEnvironmental of Stockton, CA. All soil samples will be
analyzed by TPH diesel and BTEX. Once results of the analysis are received by our office,
we will promptly forward these to your office for review along with a layout map to scale
showing sampling locations.
