Information to Bidders
Soil Excavation, Liner/Cap Construction
Puregro/Brea Facility
Section 1. Page 4
Bid Item 4.
Bid Item 4. shall consist of paving of the two former evaporation pond areas with asphaltic
concrete, having a minimum thickness of four (4) inches. The asphaltic concrete shall conform
to the requirements of the State of California specification for Type B asphaltic concrete. The
material shall be placed within the appropriate temperature range and shall be properly
compacted in conformance with state and local regulations. Results of the temperature readings
shall be forwarded by mail to Sierra-Pacific upon completion of paving work. The surface of the
installed paving shall slope a minimum of 2 per cent away from the center of each former
evaporation pond area, to provide for positive drainage control.
Bid Item 5.
Bid Item 5. shall consist of survey control of line and grade for excavation and construction of
the liner and cap system, the preparation of an as-built plan and contour map of the completed
paved former pond areas, and the preparation and submittal of a short final report of the work
performed. During excavation and subgrade preparation, the depth of excavation of surface
materials and the direction and gradient of sloping for positive drainage control purposes shall
be verified by survey. A minimum fall of two (2) per cent from the center of each of the two
former evaporation pond areas shall be established on the top of the prepared subgrade, and also
on the top of the installed paving, to provide for positive drainage control. The surveying shall
be performed by a California Licensed Land Surveyor. An as-built plan of both work areas shall
be prepared, which illustrates the as-built surface elevations and drainage directions, including
elevation contours on the finished surface. The as-built plan shall be prepared at a scale of one
inch equals 10 feet.
The Contractor shall prepare and submit at the completion of this work a short report of the work
activities performed, including, but not limited to, such items as the date work commenced, the
date excavation and soil staging work was completed, the date the geosynthetic liner was
completed, the date the paving was completed, the results of the subgrade, aggregate baserock,
and asphaltic concrete tests, and the date of work completion. Daily work reports may be
included as an appendix to this summary report.
