0
2
PUREGRO/BREA, STOCKTON
2. A plan to determine whether the 1,2-DCP and nitrate plume is confined to the shallow
(approximately 70') aquifer, or whether it has moved into the next deeper aquifer.
3. A plan to remove or immobilize as much of the source material as possible. I understand
that recent soil samples have shown that the soils of the former north pond contain
measurable concentrations of 1,2-DCP, and that you now believe this pond to be the main
source of the groundwater contamination.
4. The elements of a feasibility study to determine how to remediate the groundwater. Carbon
filtration, air stripping, and UV/oxidation have all been used with success on volatiles. You
may be aware of other treatment technologies. At a minimum, the feasibility study should
include the collection of aquifer and soil data necessary to design extraction well(s); a
determination of the remediation method which will be used; and a preliminary design of the
extraction and treatment system.
Please submit the workplan, and a proposed time schedule for implementation of each of the items,
by 14 April 1995.
If you have any questions, or wish to set up a meeting to discuss this matter, I can be reached at
(916) 255-3104.
WENDY WYELS
Ag Regulatory Unit
cc: Mr. Mike Infurna, San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Stockton
Mr. John Rapp, Sierra Pacific Groundwater Consultants, El Dorado Hills
