Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc.
HYDROGEOLOGISTS&GEOLOGISTS
y y
RECEIVED
AUG 12 1994
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
August 9, 1994
Mr. Joseph Vargas
1656 Sutro Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205
Subject. East Stockton Ground-Water Investigation, New Monitoring Wells Required on Property "
Located at 1656 N. Sutro, Sierra-Pacific Project No. 94-055.3
Dear Mr. Vargas:
The State of California recently asked Unocal Corporation to define the extent of agricultural
chemical concentrations known to be present in shallow ground water at an agricultural-chemical
facility at 1905 North Broadway Avenue, Stockton. Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc.
(Sierra-Pacific) has been contracted by Unocal to conduct the Broadway Avenue ground-water
investigation.
The ag-chem facility, operated by Crop Production Services (CPS), is located a few hundred feet
east of your property. Relatively low concentrations of fertilizer and pesticides have been detected
in wells at the site, and ground water appears to flow southwest towards your property. On behalf
of Unocal, Sierra-Pacific would like to install a shallow monitoring well on your property, take
water samples, and determine if ag-chemicals exist in the water.
Depending on site access, a well can usually be installed in a single day, and developed within one
week. Wells can be installed at surface-level, or with an 18-inch steel standpipe. Monitoring wells
are often sampled every three (3) months using a 2-inch-diameter, submersible, electronic pump.
You would be notified ahead of time to there would be no unannounced visits by our field
personnel. Water samples would be analyzed for ammonium, nitrates, and halocarbon compounds.
Several large industrial facilities and small shops operating in the east Stockton region may be
contributing to widespread ground-water pollution. It is difficult to isolate individual industrial and
domestic sources of ground-water pollution. However, the State, San Joaquin County, and Unocal
must try. We need additional scientific information, especially ground-water data.
Would you allow Sierra-Pacific to install and sample a 2-inch-diameter monitoring well on your
property?
(916)933.1468
4911 Windplay Drive,Suite 4 EI Dorado Hills,California 95762 (916)9333197 FAX
