Triad Groundwater AssodVates
HYDROGEOLOGISTS& GEOLOGISTS
May 23, 1990
Mr. Greg Lyon
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division tx
P.O. Box 2009 MAY 2 5 9390
Stockton, California 95201 tNVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Subject: Monitoring Well Abandonment and PERMIT/SERVICES
Installation
Moore Petroleum Inc.
1399 Yosemite Avenue
Manteca, CA
Triad Project No. 10-90-480
Dear Mr. Lyon:
As we discussed in our phone conversation of May 22, 1990 this
letter is to inform you of Triad Groundwater Associates ' (Triad)
intention to abandon and replace monitoring well MW-3 which was
damaged during removal of underground storage tanks in December,
1989. This monitoring well will be abandoned by over-drilling the
two-inch diameter well casing and screen utilizing four-inch-
diameter hollow-stem augers. Following removal of all well casing
and screen the borehole will be grouted from top to bottol with a
cement/bentonite slurry. The slurry will pumped through a tremie
pipe to the bottom of the borehole until cement is observed at the
surface. Following completion of abandonment of MW-3, monitoring
well MW-3A will be installed within about 10 feet of the abandoned
well. The installation of monitoring well MW-3A will follow those
procedures and guidelines presented previously in the Hydrogeologic
Assessment Work Plan for this site. The abandonment of MW-3 and
installation of MW-3A is scheduled for June_12, 1990.. Should this
schedule change I will inform you at the earliest opportunity.
A minimum of 24 hours following installation of monitoring well MW--
3A, all monitoring wells at the site will be sampled. Ground water
samples will be submitted to a California-certified laboratory to
be analyzed for ethylene dibromide (EDB) , 1,2-dichloroethane (EDC) ,
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX) , and total purgeable
hydrocarbons (TPH) by EPA method-8260.) Laboratory turn-around time
is typically 12 working days. Following receipt and evaluation of
ground-water analyses I will forward to you our recommendations for
continued monitoring and/or ground-water remediation at this site.
I anticipate that this information can be provided to your office
no later than July 31, 1990.
P.O. Box 1805 Cameron Park,California 95682 (916)676-5941
(916)676-8018 FAX
