(Aegis), has been notified that a new building is to be
constructed on the subject site. One of the existing monitoring wells (MW-3) lies within
the new building location, and will therefore be abandoned. Abandonment will be
accomplished by removing the top 5 feet of casing and pressure grouting with a neat
cement-bentonite mix to the surface. The location of MW-3 is shown on the attached site
map (Figure 1). The site fieldwork required for abandonment will be performed in
accordance with the Site Health and Safety Plan included in the "Proposed Work Plan for
Limited Additional Site Assessment" (dated April 19, 1991), previously submitted by Aegis.
It is our opinion that replacement of this monitoring well is not required at this time for
continuation of adequate site monitoring. Concentrations of hydrocarbon constituents in
groundwater samples from MW-3 have been below detection limits since April 1991. The
direction of groundwater flow, determined by Aegis in October 1991 (Figure 2), is to the
west towards MW-4, which will remain in service. We anticipate that the remaining wells
(MW-1 B, MW-2, MW-4, and MW-5) will be sufficient for required groundwater monitoring.
The required $60.00 fee and three copies of the completed Application for Permit form
are enclosed. We plan to contract the site work to B & F Drilling, Inc. (B & F). It is our
understanding that B & F has already provided San Joaquin County evidence of
compliance with state and local regulations regarding licensing and insurance. We plan
to conduct the site work within 10 days of receipt of county approval.
90-098J.LTR
GEOLOGISTS • ENGINEERS • GROUND WATER SCIENTISTS
