Laboratory Analysis
Flying J collected a water sample from a diesel dispenser pan on February 13, 2001 and
had it analyzed by GeoAnalytical Laboratories, Inc. for petroleum hydrocarbons using
the 3510 Luft methodology. The only detectable hydrocarbons were diesel range
hydrocarbons at a concentration of 5.4 mg/L. Laboratory data sheets and chain-of-
custody form for the sample collected on February 13, 2001 are attached.
Request
Because the water generated at the diesel islands that flows directly into the OWS is not
considered a hazardous waste and because the water that accumulates in the dispenser
pans is the same water and contains a low concentration of hydrocarbons, Flying J
respectfully requests that we be allowed to dispose of the dispenser water by pouring it
into the OWS system on site.
I look forward to your response to this letter.
