5. Failed to completely label containers or tanks of hazardous waste.
Oily waste rags were observed inside an `overpack" container that had no label. One black
55-gallon container located inside the hazardous waste storage area had a blank (pre-
printed) hazardous waste label.
All hazardous waste containers shall be marked with the following information:
-the words"Hazardous Waste"
-name and address of generator
-hazardous properties
-physical state
-composition (contents)
-accumulation start date
The observed oily rags were moved to an existing "empty" 55-gallon container nad both
containers were labeled with all appropriate information at the time of inspection. The
accumulation start date was determined by Mr. Cairns based on the previous hazardous
waste pick up at this facility. This was corrected on site.
This is a Class II violation.
PFJ employees have been trained on proper handling, storage, and labeling procedures for
hazardous waste and the hazardous waste area is checked periodically to ensure adherence
to these regulations. The corporate office has reiterated the importance of proper disposal of
hazardous waste with store personnel, as well as drivers and third-party carriers and will
continue to check these areas.
Having corrected the violations noted during the inspection, it is our understanding that this matter is
closed and that PFJ is in full compliance with the requirements of the EHD.
