You may want to contact their HOA representative,Suzi Harris,at VierraMoore to see
about posting signage. Her contact information is: (916)925-9000 ext 225 or sharris@vierramoore.com
I spoke with Ms. Harris on Wednesday this week. She told me she was aware of the situation and that their contractor,
Aquatic Environments, provided them with a proposal on how to potentially spot treat the area with the
bloom. According to her, the community prohibits dogs from entering and swimming in the water and people are not
allowed to swim as well. Only non-fuel engine boating (electric motor and paddling) are permitted and fishing is catch-
and-release only. She is aware that I contacted your agency to alert you of the issue.
We have decided to go out to the site on Monday to collect water samples to identify which type of cyanobacteria they
have growing there. Depending on what we find, we will share the information with you.
Thank you for following-up on this issue and for outreaching to the HOA to provide them and the residents signage and
handouts on the hazards of cyanobacteria.
Have a nice weekend.
Christine Joab
From: Jeff Carruesco [EH] [mailto:jcarruesco(asjcehd.com]
Sent: Friday, March 17, 2017 3:04 PM
To: Joab, Christine@Waterboards; Linda Turkatte [EH]; Kasey Foley [EH]
Cc: Rodney Estrada [EH]
Subject: RE: Cyanobacteria and Sewage Smell Complaint - Oakwood Lake in Oakwood Shores Community
Hi Christine,
Getting back with you regarding our findings at Oakwood Shores. An inspector made a site visit there yesterday and
observed the condition of the water near the main clubhouse. He did observe what appeared to be blue-green
algae. He did not notice a human waste smell. There was a heavy"algae" smell though. Our department can post our
caution sign for hazards of blue green algae at the dock with their permission. We can also send a person in charge at
Oakwood Shores an educational handout regarding algal blooms to determine if they want to mail it to their
residents. Unknown as to the cause of the algae in the water.
Thanks,
Jeff
t
