Following well purging, we allowed the wells to recharge before we collected groundwater
samples. We collected the groundwater samples with new, well-dedicated polyethylene
disposable bailers and poured the collected groundwater into new 40 milliliter (ml) glass vials
and 250 ml amber bottles. Following collection, we immediately placed the water samples on
ice in a cooler. JJW did not experience any ambient petroleum-like odors above any of the
monitor wells. Specific site conditions and sampling parameters can be found in the Well
Sample Field Logs included in Appendix A.
JJW transported the groundwater samples under chain-of-custody to TEG - Northern
California, Inc. (Certification No. 2012) and Kiff Analytical (Certification No. 2236), State of
. California certified analytical laboratories. The groundwater samples were analyzed for the
following parameters:
,., Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-gasoline) (EPA method 8260B).
Total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel fuel (TPH-diesel) (EPA method 8015mod).
The aromatic fuel components benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX),
1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2 DCA), and the fuel oxygenate MtBE (EPA method 8260B).
Fuel oxygenates DIPE, EtBE, TAME, tert-butanol, methanol, and ethanol
.. (EPA method 8260B) on selected samples.
1,2-Dibromoethane (1,2 DBA) (EPA method 82606) on selected samples.
V
3.2 Analytical Laboratory Results
Laboratory analyses indicated that the aromatic fuel component benzene was detected above
the laboratory reporting limit in two of the eleven groundwater monitor wells sampled ranging
from 1.1 }igIL in MWJA to 10 µglL in MW-5. Monitor well MW-5 is screened through the top
of the groundwater table, currently at approximately thirty-one feet below ground surface
(bgs). Monitor well MWJA is screened between approximately 100 and 110 feet bgs,
adjacent to MW-5.
The aromatic fuel components toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes were detected in
groundwater monitor wells MW-2 and/or MW-5. Toluene was detected in MW-5 at 1.0 µg/L.
Ethylbenzene was reported in MW-2 at 2.6 µg/L and in MW-5 at 0.86 µg/L. Xylenes were
detected in MW-2 at 14 µg& and in MW-5 at 8.6 fig&
TPH-gasoline was detected above the laboratory reporting limit in two of the eleven
groundwater monitor wells sampled, at values of 430 µg/l_ in MW-2, and 970 µglL in MW-5.
TPH-diesel was not detected in any of the monitor wells sampled.
Nine of the eleven monitor wells were sampled for 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2 DCA). Four of the
nine monitor wells had low concentrations of 1,2 DCA ranging from 0.64 µglL in MW-5 to 3.0
dig/l_ in MW-1.
Laboratory analyses indicated that the fuel oxygenate methyl-tertiary-butyl ether (MtBE) was
not detected at or above the laboratory reporting limit in any of the eleven monitor wells
. sampled.
Groundwater samples from eight of the eleven monitor wells sampled were analyzed for
1,2-dibromoethane (1,2 DBA), and the fuel oxygenates diisopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl-t-butyl
ether (EtBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tert-butanol (TBA), methanol, and ethanol.
3 JJW GEOSCIENCES Inc.
w
