' Rajappan&Meyer Date:3/3/99
.Arch Road/Highway 99 Page: 1
1.0 BACKGROUND
URS Greiner Woodward-Clyde (URSGWC) was retained by Rajappan and Meyer, Inc. (R&M)
' to conduct a soil investigation of the Arch Road/Highway 99 interchange. The project was
conducted in accordance with the Soil Sampling Work Plan Arch Road/Highway 99, Stockton,
California (URSGWC 1999). The project area consists of land to the north, south, east, and west
of the interchange. A parcel of property on the far southwestern comer of the project area is of
particular concern because a gas station was located there in the late 1960s. The gas station was
subsequently demolished; the status of the underground storage tanks (USTs) at the site was
' unknown. This investigation entailed a geophysical survey to determine if any USTs remained at
the former site of the gas station, and a subsurface investigation to determine if contamination
due to leaking tanks is present. Additionally, surface soil samples were collected throughout the
project area to assess the impact of vehicular exhaust. Refer to Figure 1 for the project area
location.
2.0 PROPOSED APPROACH AND SAMPLING
2.1 Objectives
The objectives of this investigation were to assess:
The presence, or absence, of USTs at the site of the former gas station.
• The presence, or absence, of subsurface soil contamination due to leaking USTs at the former
gas station site;
• The presence, or absence, of lead-contaminated surficial soil due to emissions from vehicle
exhaust.
1 R&M/Arch Rd/43-00066762.00.5000
