(R&M)
to conduct a preliminary environmental investigation of the Arch Road/Highway 99 Interchange.
The project area consists of land to the north, south, east, and west of the Interchange. A parcel
of property on the far southwestern comer of the project area is of particular concern because a
' gas station was located there in the late 1960s. The gas station was subsequently demolished; the
status of the underground storage tanks (USTs) at the site is unknown. Refer to Figure I for the
project area location. This investigation will entail a geophysical survey to determine if any
USTs remain at the former site of the gas station, and a subsurface investigation to determine if
contamination due to leaking tanks is present. Additionally, surface soil will be collected
throughout the project area to assess the impact of vehicular exhaust and agricultural impact.
This document outlines the approach URSGWC will use to perform the environmental
investigation.
' This Work Plan is being prepared and submitted to the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Division at their request.
' 2.0 PROPOSED APPROACH AND SAMPLING
' 2.1 Objectives
The objectives of this investigation are to assess:
The presence, or absence, of USTs at the site of the former gas station.
' • The presence, or absence, of subsurface soil contamination due to leaking USTs at the former
gas station site;
' • The presence, or absence, of lead-contaminated surficial soil due to emissions from vehicle
exhaust; and
' If shallow groundwater is present, a sample will be collected to determine the presence, or
absence, of groundwater contamination due to leaking USTs.
' R&M/Arch Rd/43-00066762.00.1000
