When <br /> entering the heated shelter the outer layer of clothing shall <br /> be removed and the remainder of the clothing loosened to permit <br /> sweat evaporation. A change of dry work clothing shall be <br /> provided as necessary to prevent worker from returning to their <br /> work with wet clothing. Dehydration, or the loss of body <br /> fluids, occurs in the cold environment and may increase the <br /> susceptibility of the worker to cold injury due to a <br /> significant change in blood flow to the extremities. Warm <br /> sweet drinks and soups should be provided at the work site to <br /> provide caloric intake and fluid volume. The intake of coffee <br /> should be limited. (Adapted from TLV's and Biological Exposure <br /> Indices 1988-1989; ACGIH) . <br /> ♦ Falling Objects: <br /> Hard hats must be worn by all personnel whenever construction- <br /> type activity is taking place. (ie. , drilling, excavation, <br /> trenching) . <br /> ♦ Vehicular traffic: <br /> All employees will be required to wear a fluorescent safety <br /> vest at all times while on site. In addition, the following <br /> safety equipment procedures must be adhered to. <br /> TASK TRAFFIC SAFETY EQUIPMENT <br /> Drilling A <br /> Subsurface Entry A <br /> Well Installation A <br /> Well Maintenance B <br /> Well Gauging B <br /> Sampling B <br /> Pump Test B <br /> SAFETY EQUIPMENT KEY: <br /> A = Cones and barricades required - tapes and flags are recommended but <br /> optional. <br /> B = Cones are required - flags are recommended but are optional. <br /> 4.3.2 Well Installation; Well Development; Well Gauging; Well <br /> Bailing; Soil & Groundwater Sampling: <br /> Skin and eye contact with contaminated groundwater and/or soil <br /> may occur during these tasks. Nitrile butyl rubber or neoprene <br /> gloves and approved safety goggles should be worn when contact <br /> with contaminated substance and/or splash is possible. <br /> 9 <br />
