' Cahforma Department of Transportation Revised September 23, 1994
Project No. 102818-01
ANALYTICAL TESTING
Groundwater samples collected were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as
gasoline by EPA test method 8015-modified Department of Health Services (DHS), TPH as
diesel by EPA test method 8015-modified DHS, and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes (BTEX) by EPA test method 8020 Soil samples collected from the two stockpiles
were analyzed for TPH as gasoline, BTEX, and total lead (EPA method 7241)
ANALY'T'ICAL RESULTS
TPH as gasoline was detected at a concentration of 2,570 micrograms per liter (µgM) in the
groundwater sample collected from monitoring well MW-10 and at a concentration of 52 2
µg/e in the sample collected from monitoring well MW-14 TPH as gasoline was not detected
in concentrations greater than the detection limit in groundwater samples collected from
monitoring wells MW-11, MW-12, MW-13, MW-16, MW-19, MW-20, and MW-24 TPH as
diesel was not detected in concentrations greater than the detection limit in groundwater
samples collected
Elevated concentrations of BTEX were detected in groundwater samples collected from
monitoring wells MW-10, MW-11, MW-12, MW-13, MW-14, MW-19, and MW-24.
Concentrations of benzene ranged from less than the detection limit to 13,000 gg/e,
concentrations of toluene ranged from less than the detection limit to 3,400 µg/e,
concentrations of ethylbenzene ranged from less than the detection limit to 22.9 µg/e, and
concentrations of xylenes ranged from less than the detection limit to 2,800µg/e BTEX was
not detected in groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells MW-16 and MW-20.
A summary of the results of the groundwater analysis is presented as Table 2 The
laboratory analytical report, including quality control/quality assurance data and chain of
custody documentation, is presented as Appendix C.
Soil samples collected from the two stockpiles did not contain detectable concentrations of
TPH as gasoline. The soil samples contained concentrations of toluene ranging from 115
micrograms per lalogram (µg/kg) to 25 0 µg/kg, but did not contain concentrations of
benzene, ethylbenzene, or xylenes above their respective detection limits Total lead was
7
g9Xff"&42"MT[M
