SOIL VAPOR TESTING REPORT '' r
for
California Department of Transportation t" 1 i +t Fit-
Shop 10 Facility
1603 South B Street
Stockton, California
]project Number 42-0024
September 18, 1992
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of soil vapor testing activities conducted at the Caltrans
Shop 10 Facility, 1603 South B Street, Stockton, California. This test was performed in
accordance with the requirements and guidelines of the San Joaquin County Public Health
Department (SJCPHD) and the Bay Area Air Quality District. Test results are used to
estimate the air extraction rates, approximate the vacuum radius of influence, and the
influent hydrocarbon vapor concentrations. Test results will be used to design the extraction
well field array, cumulative flow rate capacity of the treatment equipment, and the type of
treatment technology The vapor extraction remediation system (VES) will be designed to
• recover hydrocarbons by creating a zone of vacuum to generate air flow through the
unsaturated zone
BACKGROUND
Site Description
The site is situated at an approximate elevation of 21 feet above mean sea level (msl), as
shown in Figure 1, Site Vicinity Map. Caltrans Shop 10 Facility is located across the street,
to the west of the Caltrans Stockton Maintenance Facility and south of the San Joaquin
County Fairgrounds (Figure 2). Other properties adjacent to the site are primarily
commercial and residential developments Mormon Slough, the nearest surface body of
water in the area, is located approximately 1,000 feet north of the site. Duck Creek is
approximately 1-1/2 miles south of the site
A summary of the results of subsurface investigative work performed at the site are
summarized below
o Review of subsurface geology indicates the site is underlain by predominately
silty sand and poorly-graded sand with interbedded silty sand and silty clay
units
