1
5.0 CONCILUSIONS
Based on Geocon's review of the soil and groundwater data acquired through October 1996,
summarized below are conclusions regarding the environmental investigations performed at the site
• Based on current soil analytical data, the majority of the residual TPHg currently remaining in
soil is located beneath the gasoline and diesel UST excavation to a depth of approximately 50
feet bgs
0 The lateral limits of residual TPHg in on-site vadose zone soil are confined to the immediate
vicinity of the UST excavation and are generally bounded by borings VM-1, VM-2 and MW-2
' The lateral limits of residual TPHg in on-site capillary fringe soil are generally bounded by
borings SB-18, MW-13 and AB-2
o The volume of TPHg-impacted soil in the vadose and capillary fringe zones is estimated at
' 2,000 and 3,000 cubic yards, respectively
o The soil analytical data obtained from this investigation provided the ability to reasonably
' estimate the lateral distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil beneath the site and initiate
corrective action planning Evaluation of the site conditions and data obtained from the vapor
extraction pilot test indicated that soil vapor extraction is feasible and the most cost effective
remediation technology for the impacted soil
o TPHg and BTEX exist in groundwater beneath the site with the majority of dissolved mass
located in the vicinity of the former USTs
1
' Project No 58100-06-18A -13- December 9, 1996
