Protect No 58100-0648 <br /> June 21, 1995 <br /> Page 4 <br /> PURPOSE <br /> The purposes of the Phase 1 and Phase 2 work requested by Caltrans are as follows <br /> 1 To re-establish groundwater sampling capability for the onsite wells that were previously <br /> temporarily decommissioned <br /> 2 To perform a groundwater monitoring event and obtain current groundwater quality data <br /> beneath and in the vicinity of the former USTs <br /> 3 To measure the current concentrations of residual TPHg in vadose zone and capillary fringe <br /> soil beneath the former USTs <br /> 4 To perform a supplemental vapor extraction test (VET) and acquire field data sufficient to <br /> design a vapor extraction system to remediate soil and groundwater beneath the site <br /> 5 To review current groundwater quality data and re-evaluate the distribution of dissolved <br /> TPHg and benzene beneath the site <br /> • 6 Based on the current concentrations and distribution of TPHg and benzene in groundwater, <br /> evaluate whether a groundwater pump test and formal groundwater remediation are <br /> warranted <br /> PHASE 1 SCOPE OF WORK <br /> Task I - Prefield Activities <br /> • A pre-work site visit was conducted on April 28, 1995 with Caltrans contract manager, Mr <br /> Saiyed Alt to inspect the work area At the pre-work site visit, the Site Visit Checklist and <br /> Completion Schedule was discussed and signed by the Geocon project manager and the <br /> Caltrans contract manager <br /> • Prepare a Health and Safety Plan for the proposed field activities The Health and Safety <br /> Plan will address the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the proposed field <br /> activities <br /> • Contact the San Joaquin County Public Health Services to determine permitting <br /> requirements for the proposed groundwater monitoring well restoration work and the <br /> installation of the vapor extraction wells <br /> G Contact the local public utilities via Underground Service Alert, to attempt to delineate <br /> . subsurface public utilities and conduits in proximity to the proposed boring/well locations <br />
