NECTIONF®UR WDSHF0ANS688MOUR
The objectives of this exposure assessment were to identify populations that may be exposed to
chemicals in soil, the pathways by which exposures may occur, the route of potential intake and intake
Parameter values, and the frequency, magnitude, and duration of these potential human exposures The
exposure assessment for the site evaluated the types of individuals (receptors) that may be exposed to
chemicals from the site, how that exposure may occur (exposure pathways), the chemical
concentrations to which the receptors are potentially exposed (exposure point concentrations), and the
magnitude of the chemical intake(exposure factors) The end product of the exposure assessment is a
measure of chemical intake that was combined with a measure of the chemical's potential toxicity, to
derive quantitative estimates of potential health impacts
The exposure assessment focuses on the chemicals of concern detected in soil and groundwater at the
Shop l0 site The following steps were used to meet these objectives
o Identification of potentially exposed receptor populations
o Identification of complete exposure pathways
o Evaluation of the potential for release of chemicals from the source area
o Estimation of exposure point concentrations for specific pathways
ays
o Estimation of chemical intakes.for receptor populations associated with each complete
exposure pathway
The results of this exposure assessment are pathway-specific intakes for each chemical of concern
These intakes were used in conjunction with chemical-specific critical toxicity values to evaluate
potential human health risk in the receptor populations
4.1 POTENTIAL RECEPTOR POPULATIONS
Populations that may currently or in the future be potentially exposed to site-related contamination
' were identified to help assess the likelihood and extent of potential exposure to chemicals of concern
An evaluation of future land use was conducted to identify receptor populations that may be subject to
a different risk in the future The risk assessment considered the current and the anticipated future use
of the property At this time, the property is being used as a maintenance facility In the area of the
former UST's, a large shop building is currently being developed The building will have large doors
(providing good ventilation)for Caltrans equipment to enter the maintenance areas There are no plans
for the property to change land used The potential receptors are primarily occupational employees
Other potentially exposed populations may also exist (such as trespassers or occasional visitors), but
employees are expected to have the highest degree of exposure
Woodwmd4Wo T%1867%973009NA%STOCKTOMREPORT%SHOREP#9 D0CI8-FEB-9"7300BNA%SNA 4-1
