PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration.
The report summarized results from soil and groundwater samples collected during the April -
June 1995 investigation. - PHS/EHD concurs that additional soil and groundwater investigation
will be necessary to delineate the extent of contamination associated with the former
underground storage tanks.
The report suggested that at minimum one additional soil boring in the area of the former tanks
and four additional monitoring wells be drilled and installed. PHS/EHD recommends that the
additional soil borings in the area of the former tanks be completed into vapor extraction wells of
varying screened intervals. The groundwater investigation proposed will not adequately
investigate the plume's boundaries to the west of MW3 and VW1. Please submit an addendum
workplan addressing PHS/EHD's comments regarding the proposed scope of work by September
22, 1995. Also, quarterly monitoring and sampling should be initiated at the site until such time
as sufficient information is available to reduce the sampling frequency.
If you have any questions, please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
i
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
