The borings will be drilled to a
depth of approximately 60' below the mud line. Thin wall samples will also be taken. A
rotary drilling method will be used and all drilling fluids will be kept in a closed system.
Upon completion of each boring, the borehole will be backfilled with grout in accordance
with the requirements of the San Joaquin County Department of Environmental Health.
The information collected from the borings will be used for the design and future
placement of a gate system designed to restrict sensitive Delta species from moving
into the Old River where they are subject to entrainment by export pumps.
Due to an expedited time schedule, the SLDMWA is requesting permission to
conduct the boring activities in August or September of this year. The SLDMWA
anticipates that the geotechnical work will take approximately one week to complete.
