Samples will be field
screened for the presence of residual petroleum hydrocarbon vapor concentrations using a photo-
ionization detector (PID). Soil samples collected will be classified by Closure Solutions field
' personnel according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) and examined using
visual and manual methods for parameters including odor, staining, color, grain size, and
moisture content. Selected soil samples may be submitted under Chain-of-Custody protocols to
a California ELAP certified analytical laboratory, as described in Section 4.4. Based on the
' locations of the proposed wells, no chemical analysis of the soil samples is planned.
4.4 SOIL SAMPLE HANDING AND ANALYSIS
Each soil sample collected for possible chemical analysis will be covered at each end with
' Teflon"m sheeting, capped with plastic end caps, labeled, and placed in an ice-filled cooler for
preservation. Any soil samples selected for chemical analysis will be submitted under chain-of-
custody protocol to Kiff Analytical of Davis, California, a California State-certified analytical
laboratory and will be analyzed for the following: methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), ethyl
tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), tertiary amyl methyl ether
' (TAME), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), ethanol, and methanol using EPA Method 8260B.
5.0 WASTE DISPOSAL
Investigation derived waste (IDW) will be temporarily stored on-Site in 55-gallon,
' DOT-approved 17H drums, pending characterization and disposal.
