0 r Y
Mr. Verrill Norwood -2- 14 May 1996
It is not appropriate to conduct grid sampling in the wastewater ponds to be closed and then
composite four of the samples of one cell into one sample. Discrete samples must be collected
from within the pond boundaries, with samples collected from both the bottoms and sides of
each pond. Samples should be collected at a minimum of five-foot depth intervals, at changes in
lithology, to ground water. In addition to collecting soil samples within the ponds, soil samples
surrounding the ponds may be needed to determine the lateral extent of soil contamination if soil
within the ponds is found to be contaminated.
By 7 June 1996, you are required to submit an adequate work plan which addresses the above
cor -nents. Failure to submit an adequate work Plan will result in our recommendation for a
Cleanup and Abatement Order.
If you have any questions, you may call Polly Lowry at (916) 255-3048.
r
WENDY COHEN
Senior Engineer
PAL:pal/lsb
cc: San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Stockton
Mr. Tim Vickers, All Pure Chemical Company, Tracy
