The Regional Board staff also concurred that use of the HydroPunch sampling methodology is a
cost effective approach to characterizing shallow groundwater. Since the Regional Board's data
base ysamples indicates that HydroPunch have successfully been collected at other locations, we
have assumed that the methods will be successful at the All Pure Tracy Facility.
SCOPE OF WORK
This Scope of Work describes the phased approach that will he followed to characterize shallow
groundwater near the northeast and southern boundaries of the All Pure Tracy Facility. The first
phase of this Scope of Work employs HydroPunch sampling of groundwater to assess the
presence of preferential pathways and effects from offsite contamination, such as the diesel
plume emanating from the underground pipeline within the railroad track right-of-way. The
second phase of the Scope of Work is the construction of two or more shallow groundwater
monitoring wells at locations appropriate for assessing the lateral extent of chloroform and
carbon tetrachloride.
This Scope of Work is comprised of five tasks that are listed below.
Task 1 - HydroPunch Sampling
Task 2 - HydroPunch Sampling Report
Task 3 - Construct Shallow Groundwater Monitoring Wells
Task 4 - Groundwater Sampling
Task 5 -Groundwater Investigation Report
Each of these tasks are briefly discussed in the following sections.
Task 1 -HydroPunch Sampling
HydroPunch sampling of the shallow aquifer will be conducted to assess lateral variations in the
concentrations of chloroform and carbon tetrachloride previously detected in samples collected.
from monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 at the All Pure Tracy Facility. At the northeast
property boundary, HydroPunch sampling will be conducted in the area between the existing
monitoring wells and the railroad track right-of-way. Laboratory results for HydroPunch
samples collected from these locations will: 1) assist in identifying potential preferential
patbways for offsite chemical migration, 2) provide data regarding the distribution of chemicals
along the railroad track right-of-way, and 3) provide additional information regarding potential
stratification of the shallow aquifer. The proposed HydroPunch sampling locations are shown on
Figure 1.
Although groundwater is expected to be reached at a depth of approximately 16 feet, the
presence of indurated soil and hardpan conditions are likely to significantly slow the
HydroPunch sampling process. We estimate that a maximum of six locations may be sampled in
All Pure Chemical Company-Tracy Facility HELMICK& LERNER INC.
HLI 00907 P4gc 2
20'd SSz-1 Sul ,au a iw aH WOdd 22b289b602T 01 SS:ST 96, 9T 7nf
