bag or container is opened enough to allow for insertion of the monitoring equipment probes. Field
monitoring will be conducted using an organic vapor analyzer (OVA) equipped with a flame
ionization detector (FID) and an OVA equipped with a photoionization detector (PID). The
concentration of organic vapors detected by the PID and FID instruments will be recorded on the
boring logs. Field screening will also include noting visual indications of the presence of petroleum
hydrocarbons, such as staining,discoloration,or sheens.
l.aboratary Analyses
Soil samples will not be selected for laboratory analysis; whereas, groundwater samples collected
from; each soil boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis. Groundwater samples from each
boring will be selected based on the results of field screening and sampling depth so that the
samples with the highest FID and PID readings and the deepest sample collected will be submitted
for analysis. Thus, two groundwater samples from each boring (for a maximum of 16 groundwater
samples)will be submitted for analysis.
The groundwater samples will be analyzed for chloroform and carbon tetrachloride using EPA
Method 8010. A standard ten working day turnaround time will be provided for completion of
laboratory analyses.
Ta5jj 2-HvdrQl!unch S&Wfing Report
Field screening results and laboratory analysis results will be presented in a report submitted
within four weeks of the HydroPunch sampling. On the basis of the results presented, proposed
locations for additional shallow groundwater monitoring wells will be identified and a schedule
for constructing the wells will be described.
Tmk 3 -Groundwater Monitoring Wells
We propose to construct shallow groundwater monitoring wells at locations which the
HydroPunch sampling results indicate to be representative of either preferential pathways or the
limits of chloroform or carbon tetrachloride in shallow groundwater. Drilling activities will be
conducted in accordance with San Joaquin County regulations and permitting requirements.
Monitoring wells will be drilled to a depth of approximately 25 feet below the ground surface
and will be constructed of 2-inch diameter PVC casing and screen.
At this time, we anticipate that two shallow groundwater monitoring wells will be required. One
well will be located to the south of monitoring well MW-3 and the second well will be located
northeast of monitoring wells MW-1,MW-2, and MW-3.
Drilling and Sampling
Drilling will be performed by hollow-stem auger drilling techniques using a truck-mounted drill rig
equipped with 8-inch outside diameter hollow-stem augers. The augers will be steam cleaned
All Pure Chemical Company-Tracy Facility HELMICK do LERNER INC.
HLI 00407 Page 4
S0'd sr=2_1 'OuI ` +auua1/10iwIaH W0d_J 22V229b602T 01 LS:ST 96, 9T _lAf
