Box 2009 i± `
t. Stockton CA 95201 1:
Dear Ms. Cotulla, I
i'
This is the letter report that Weiss Associates (WA.) agreed to protide
you as preliminary documentation regarding the San Joaquin Mosquito Abatement
Facility, Lodi, California. !?
on 28 October Precision industries (PI) excavated soil to 31 ft below
ground surface, 6 ft below sample SJMB/2 which had 3.800 parts per million
(Qpm) total hydrocarbons (THC). Soil from the bottom of the 'excavation was
sampled and analyzed on a rush turnaround basis by Ge Chromatography/Flame
Ionization Detection (GC/FID) for THC, benzene, toluene, xylene, and ethyl
benzene (BTXEB) with detection limits of 10 ppm for THC and 0.5 ppm for
BTXEB. Analytic results from this sample, numbered BH31, I,1are as follows: r
f
Compound (ppm) I j
Sample B T X EB THC'
Il
BH31 8.7 79 220 64 3,300 i
Ij o
The results indicate that fuel hydrocarbons extend below the reach of a
large-sired excavator and may extend to ground water. Further excavation l
would be prohibitively expensive. Therefore WA recommends:
L;
1) Install the 8,000-gallon Weed oil tank in the clean excavation
adjacent to the gasoline tank excavation and move the location cf
1,000-gallor, gasoline tank to clean area. 11
I .4
2) Backfill contaminated gasoline tank excavation and install a ground
water monitor well.
ik
A Dnv, ,l /rkHr:Iirrr.e Ad<fri:f0'lnrcr=ortfevl , {
i
Ir °
ii
I' F
I I I
