Wd1FGEP5 .7ES�hERS COMS.iyuf$ <br /> 2.0 SOIL SAMPLING AND MONITOR WELL INSTALLATION <br /> 2.1 METHODOLOGY <br /> 2.1.1 Soil Boring and Sampling MethodoloU <br /> On 25 October 1996 monitor well MW-5 was installed east of the former location of the <br /> unleaded gasoline tank and 6 ft south of SB-2 (Figure 2-1) Appendix A contains the boring and <br /> well logs for MW-5 The monitor well boring was advanced with a truck mounted hollow stem <br /> auger ng to a depth of 70 ft below ground surface (bgs) Soil samples were collected at 5-foot <br /> intervals starting at 20 ft bgs <br /> Soil samples were collected with a split spoon sampler lined with stainless steel sleeves All <br /> samples were screened in the field using a photoionization detector (PID) after the soil sample i <br /> was placed in sealed plastic bag PID readings are indicated on the boring log (Appendix A) <br /> Six soil samples collected from the bore hole were submitted to an analytical laboratory for <br /> analysis Soil samples submitted for analysis were chosen based on consultation with Ms Mary <br /> Meays of the EHD <br /> The stainless steel sleeves containing samples for chemical analysis were capped with Teflon <br /> sheets and plastic caps The samples were placed in sealed plastic bags and stored on ice at a <br /> temperature of approximately 4°C for transport to an analytical laboratory The remaining soil <br /> was described following the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) under the direction of <br /> a California Registered Geologist <br /> 2.1.2 Monitor Well Construction <br /> Monitor well MW-5 was constructer) of 2-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC casing A 20-foot <br /> section of 0 010-inch slotted PVC screen was installed from 70 ft to 50 ft bgs The screen <br /> extended approximately 3 ft above the water table A sand pack (Lonestar 2112) was placed <br /> from the bottom of the boring to 48 ft bgs A 4-foot bentonite seal was placed above the sand <br /> pack After the bentonite seal hydrated, the remaining annular space was grouted to the surface <br /> with a bentonite/cement grout A traffic grade flush mount utility box was installed over the <br /> monitor well A locking water tight cap was installed on the monitor well Appendix A <br /> contains the well log <br /> • <br /> L 1PR0JECTSISAN10QWCL001 REP 2 January IM <br />
