 • i
A WESTON sample label will be affixed to every sample container and will include the
following information project ID or project number, sample ID, date, time of sample
collection, sampler's initials, analytes requested and preservatives used, if any
A Chain-of-Custody document will be initiated at the time of sampling and will accompany the
sample until it is received by the laboratory The Cham-of-Custody form shall be protected by
sealing it into a water tight plastic ziplock bag, placed with the samples during sample shipment
3.2 Sampling Technique
3.2.1 Soil Sampling
As discussed in Section 2 2, samples will be collected at 5 foot intervals starting at 35 feet bgs
to a maximum depth of 60 feet bgs No sampling will be conducted above 35 feet due to the
previously completed remedial excavation which extended to 32 feet bgs in the area of the
proposed boring locations All samples will be retrieved with a split spoon sampler fitted with
brass or stainless steel sleeves Each soil sample will be field screened for the presence of
hydrocarbons using a photoionization detector (PID) Based on field screening results, visually
apparent hydrocarbon staining or Iithology, three samples from each boring (a total of 12) will
be submitted for analysis per the schedule presented in Section 3 5
For sosam samples it selected for analysis, the metal sleeves used to collect the soil samples will be
p Y
capped with Teflon-lined plastic end caps secured with tape The sleeves will be labeled and
placed into ziplock plastic bags for temporary storage in a cooler pending transport to the
laboratory
3.2.2 Groundwater Sampling
The groundwater samples will be collected from the aquifer below MW-2 and MW-3 which have
been dry since at least December 1991 The wells are 50 feet deep while the current
groundwater level is near 60 feet bgs Initially, a split spoon soil sampler will be driven through
the bottom cap of the well and into the soil until groundwater is encountered When
groundwater is encountered by the split spool sampler, the sampler will be replaced with the
Hydropunch tool which will be driven into the undisturbed aquifer and opened
1 A representative groundwater sample will then be collected from the Hydropunch using a
stainless steel bailer equipped with a thin nylon line Groundwater collected in the bailer will
' be poured into the appropriate sample containers while minimizing aeration of the sample
Containers will be completely filled and then tightly capped Each sample container will then
be labeled, sealed into individual ziplock bags, and placed in an insulated cooler with ice. The
' Hydropunch tool will then be retrieved and the boring grouted up to the bottom of the well
casing, leaving the well intact for its original purpose should groundwater levels ever recover
and should monitoring ever again be required
srMaPrsr.VcMvcn wQ
6 02/W/94
