After construction, the well will be developed by bailing, surging, and swabbing until the water
is relatively free of sediments The well head top of casing will be surveyed for elevation to
facilitate groundwater gradient calculations Soil cuttings and development water generated by
the well construction will be containenzed in labeled, 55 gallon steel drums with lids and left
onsite pending evaluation of analytical results.
2.4 Lithologic Description of Soil
During the drilling, soil samples will be collected at 10 foot intervals in a split spoon sampler
fitted with brass or stainless steel sleeves The samples will be described using standard
geological classifications of color, texture, mineral content, etc , and also classified according
to the Unified Soil Classification System. The soil descriptions will be used to produce a
lithologic log of the monitor well boring.
3.0 SAMPLING AND SAMPLE ANALYSIS PROCEDURES
This section details the sampling and analytical protocol to be utilized in the collection and
analysis of soil and groundwater samples for the site
3.1 General Sampling Protocol
The collection of samples for laboratory analysis must be accomplished in such a way that the
. sample integrity is maintained The sample will be obtained and handled so that it remains
representative of site conditions for analysis
3.2 General Requirements and Documentation
A hard bound field log book will be kept for the project by the sampling crew chief All data
relating to the collection of samples and related field activities will be recorded in the log book
Samples collected will be documented in the log book by the sample ID number, location, time,
date, and sampler's initials Any observations regarding the sampling process and field related
activities or the surrounding environment which may affect the sampling quality will be noted
in the log book Each page of the log book will be dated along with the logger's initials and the
project name Any deviations from the sample protocol or approved work plan will be entered
in the log book
A WESTON sample label will be affixed to every sample container and will include the
following information project ID or project number, sample ID, date, time of sample
collection, sampler's initials, analytes requested and preservatives used, if any
A Chain-of-Custody document will be initiated at the time of sampling and will accompany the
sample until it is received by the laboratory. The Chain-of-Custody form shall be protected by
sealing it into a water tight plastic ziplock bag, placed with the samples during sample shipment.
RvrswcM,wWnc rua
5
