For your
information, in 1994, Texaco and Southern Pacific purchased the eastern parcel of the Renown
site, as shown in the enclosed "Site Location Map". For this account, you required data of the
contamination levels.
With regards to previous work done on the site, the most recent report summarizes the bulk of
the sample analysis. This report is the Dames and Moore "Revised Draft, Preliminary
Endangerment Assessment, Renown Enterprises Property" dated June 1, 1990. Enclosed are
Tables 1 through 10 of that report which detail the analysis, along with a map indicating borehole
and well locations.
Tables 1 and 2 contain data from samples taken prior to Dames and Moore's involvement with
the site in 1988. According to Dames and Moore in their August 3, 1988 "Work Plan, Soil and
Ground Water Contamination Assessment", the property had been extensively graded
necessitating reassessment. With regard to organic content, the analyses indicates soil samples
contained Oil and Grease (O&G), Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), Benzene and
Polynuclear Aromatic Compounds (PNAs). The groundwater samples were found to contain
TPH and some PNAs, however, no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) including BTEX were
detected. The O&G and TPH values vary since, as you know, O&G is a gravimetric method
which is not specific to petroleum hydrocarbons.
Tables 4A through 6 contain organic analysis of Dames and Moore soil samples. These samples
'Vere found to contain O&G, TPH and some PNAs. From a previous Dames and Moore report
"Phase I - Soils Investigation, Soil and Ground Water contamination Assessment", no VOCs
were detected in the soil (Table 3 of that report).
Tables 8 and 9B contain groundwater analyses. O&G, TPH and PNAs were present, however,
no VOCs were detected.
