r
4
•
Wendy L. Cohen -2- 14 January 1997
The full lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination needs to be better defined. It has been over
eight years since the soil was sampled, so baseline concentrations should once again be determined
prior to implementing remedial measures. The western parcel should also be addressed. Soil
sampling should include leachability testing to determine the threat that soils pose to groundwater.
Groundwater should be sampled quarterly and analyzed for TPH as gasoline, diesel and motor oil
(EPA Method 8015M with silica gel cleanup), PNAs (EPA Method 8310), aromatic compounds and
methyl t-butyl ether(EPA Method 8020), and lead (EPA Method 239.2). After three consecutive
quarters of groundwater monitoring,we should determine the need for additional monitoring wells.
I foresee needing at least three additional wells.
The "lost"monitoring wells should be found and either refurbished or properly abandoned. The
existing wells that were recently sampled after seven years should be redeveloped.
JMW:jmw/lsb
