risk. Similarly, reference dose should be used to
determine toxicity of the total non-carcinogenic
PAHs. For comparison purposes, the CPF of PAHs
and the reference dose for non-carcinogenic PAHs
should also be used to calculate risk values.
(See Superfund Public Health Evaluation Manual,
1986. )
F. 3 .b. 3 . The potential for surface water as a pathway has
not been discussed. Exposure for all scenarios,
both adults and children should be addressed. In
all cases, a worst case and more plausible case
scenario of exposure are needed. The worst case
scenario should include contaminated ground water
as a potential source of drinking water.
H. 1.b. In addition to the referenced sources, the
following should be consulted in revising the PEA:
1. Risk Assessment Guidance for Superfund.
Human Health Manual, Volume 1, EPA 9285-701A
7/89 .
2 . Risk Assessment Guidance for Superfund
Envi'ronmental Evaluation Manual Volume II
EPA/540/1-89/001 3/88.
3 . Guidance for Conducting Remedial
Investigations and Feasibility Study under
CERCLA EPA/540/6-89/-0045 10/88 . Integrated
Risk Information System (IRIS) will provide
the most up to date data on contaminants.
H. 2 .a. Revise recommendations for remedial measures to
include specific plans for further action based on
new risk calculations. Include what community
relations efforts will •be done (i.e. , fact sheets,
public meeting) to inform the neighborhood of the
action to be taken at the site. Recommendations
for ground water remediation should be included.
H. 2 .c. In addition to the wells indicated in this
section, there was mention of a 6" well south of
the former pumping house. Has it been located and
properly abandoned? If not, this must be done.
Tables In general all tables must be self explanatory
with appropriate references and detection limits.
Exposure, intake and biological assumptions should
be supported by appropriate references and cited
in the text as well as the tables.
Table 9-A What is the significance of 11<11 .
