Box 6012
San Ramon, CA 94583
REVIEW— ADDITIONAL INVESTIGATION WORKPLAN, 990 BEECHNUT AVENUE, TRACY, SAN
JOAQUIN COUNTY
Chevron Environmental Management Company (Chevron) submitted a Workplan for an Additional Soil
and Groundwater Investigation (Workplan) dated 1 February 2012, for the 990 Beechnut Avenue
project (Site). The Workplan was prepared on behalf of Chevron by AMEC Geomatrix, Inc. (AMEC).
The Site is southwest of the intersection of Forest Hills Drive and Beechnut Avenue, in central Tracy.
Details are provided in the enclosed memorandum.
According to AMEC's 23 December 2010 Excavation Completion Report and Updated Screening Level
Risk Assessment (SLRA) Report, the targeted PAH affected soil at the Site was removed. AMEC's
updated SLRA revised a previously completed risk assessment provided in 2008. The 2010 SLRA
concluded the Site was suitable for future commercial/industrial uses, with two exceptions at other
areas of the Site where ethylbenzene and total petroleum hydrocarbon as crude oil (TPHc) remained in
shallow soil. In order to eliminate and/or minimize the presence of ethylbenzene and TPHc
concentrations in shallow soil and to provide unlimited/unrestricted potential future uses for a
hypothetical onsite resident, Chevron has proposed additional characterization.
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board staff concurs with the Workplan. By
1 August 2012, please provide the findings for the soil investigation.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dean Hubbard at (559) 445-5179 or by email at
dhubbard(U-Materboards.ca.gov.
SHELTON R.
