The workplan
was prepared for Chevron by AMEC-Geomatrix (AMEC). The Site is southwest of the
intersection of Forest Hills Drive and Beechnut Avenue, in central Tracy.
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Valley Water Board) staff has
reviewed the revised workplan and related project investigation reports for work conducted at
the Site beginning in 1989. The lateral extent of total petroleum hydrocarbon affected soil had
been adequately defined on the Site, including high levels of the polynuclear aromatic
hydrocarbon - benzo(a)pyrene. Central Valley Water Board staff had previously requested
and received a workplan for the excavation of the affected soil. In September 2008, Central
Valley Water Board staff approved a pre-excavation workplan for determining the extent of
affected soil. Based on analytical results of pre-excavation sampling, AMEC has redefined the
original extent of soil to be excavated.
An updated excavation outline is provided in the revised workplan. According to the revised
workplan:
• The approximate outline of affected soil to be excavated has been marked in the field.
Permits will be obtained and the Site will be re-checked for utilities prior to start of field
activities.
• At least two weeks prior to field activities, a public notice in both English and Spanish,
will be distributed to residents within approximately one block of the Site.
• Approximately 2,800 cubic yards of soil is planned for removal to an approximate depth
of six feet below ground surface. The excavation will be visually inspected to assess
whether additional excavation is needed and confirmation samples will be collected.
Excavated soil will be transported to Forward Landfill for disposal.
California Environmental Protection Agency
o0ecycled Paper
