KLE/NFELOER
envmsroy.xgnrsowrrcn.
4 PERMITTING AND FIELD ACTIVITIES
Kleinfelder conducted various pre-field activities including submittal of a work plan and permits
prior to advancement of nine probes and collection of 27 soil samples on April 11, 2013. The
following is a summary of pre-field and field activities including observations and sampling
methodology.
4.1 PRE-FIELD ACTIVITIES
Prior to field work Kleinfelder submitted a work plan, health and safety plan and boring permit
application packet to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD).
The work plan was titled "Work Plan, Phase II Assessment, Benjamin Holt Drive Improvement
Project, From Gettysburg Place to Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California (File No.
133385.2/ST013LO278), dated April 2, 2013. An approved boring permit was obtained prior to
initiating the Feld activities. The site was marked for utilities, and Underground Services Alert
was contacted at least 48 hours prior to field activities. For a copy of the boring permit, please
refer to Appendix D.
4.2 FIELD ACTIVITIES
Advancement of nine push probes was conducted by a pushprobe (Geoprobe) contractor, V&W
Drilling of Stockton, California (V&W). Based on background research and information
provided by SJCPW via Mr. Joe Niland of Geosyntec, Kleinfelder made some relatively minor
adjustments in the proposed sample locations. The borings were labeled Kleinfelder Boring
(KB) -1 through -9, starting from the eastern project area by Pacific Avenue and a Chevron
Station and trending west towards Gettysburg Place. The borings were placed near the Ben
Holt centerline and the proposed storm drain route.
KB-1 and KB-2 were placed immediately north of the Chevron Station, as this was a potential
source of petroleum compounds in this immediate project area. These two boring were spaced
approximately 100 feet apart. KB-3 and KB-4 were advanced in the central project area
between suspect areas of contamination and at distances ranging from 150 to 200 feet from
each other or the nearest boring. Five borings, KB-5 through KB-9 were placed near known
133385.4//STO13R0698 Page 5 of 12 January 7,2014
Copyright 2014 Kleinfelder
