Former Shell Service Station
3011 West Benjamin Holt Drive
Stockton,California
The Former Shell service station located at 3011 West Benjamin Holt Drive in Stockton is an
active environmental case with the Regional Water Quality Control Board-Central Valley
Region(RWQCB). Currently the service station is closed.
During October 1996 the underground fuel storage tanks and associated piping and dispensers
were removed at the subject site. Gasoline constituents were discovered in the soil beneath the
subject site at this time. Over the next ten years, several phases of investigation were performed
at the site to determine the extent of gasoline constituents in the soil and groundwater beneath
the subject site. Groundwater monitoring wells were installed and monitored on a quarterly
basis as part of the investigative work. Periodic groundwater extraction events were performed
as in interim-remedial approach to cleaning up groundwater beneath the subject site.
The extent of the soil and groundwater plume beneath the site has been properly delineated and
the remaining gasoline constituent concentrations in both soil and groundwater are low. These
low residual concentrations have been evaluated and have been determined to not be a threat
to human health nor to the waters of the state. Accordingly Shell has requested that the
RWQCB evaluate the site for case closure.
Anyone interested in obtaining more information regarding this site or to make comments
regarding the case closure review should contact:
James L.L.Barton,P.G.
Engineering Geologist
Regional Water Quality Control Board-Central Valley Region
11020 Sun Center Drive#200
Rancho Cordova,CA 95670-6114
Tel.
