Shell Service Station
Page Two
Mr. Infurna responded to the above points in the February 17, 1993,
letter, stating: "the closest boring/monitoring well was placed
approximately 30 feet from the tank pit_ " He again requested a PIER
and gave a 45-day deadline.
The September 16, 1988, AGS report indicates well MW-1 was installed
less than 10 feet south of the tank basin_ A figure from the AGS
report is attached.
Eleven soil and four groundwater samples were analyzed during the AGS
and Aegis investigations. None of the samples indicated
concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons, as gasoline, or
benzene above the method detection limits or PQL. The results of
both the AGS and Aegis investigations indicate groundwater beneath
the site does not contain petroleum hydrocarbons tested below the
method detection limits and PQL.
Appendix A of the "Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations for
Preliminary Evaluation and Investigation of Underground Tank Sites"
(August 10, 1990) indicates a PIER determines whether groundwater
should be investigated_ It is the opinion of Shell and Aegis that
the absence of gasoline compounds in soil and groundwater samples
collected from the site demonstrates additional investigation is not
warranted.
Again, Shell wishes to resolve this conflict at the county level.
Your attention to this matter is appreciated. If you have any
questions, please call me at (510) 675-6168
Sincerely,
Z t-rf LA
D.
