Benjamin Holt Drive
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Facino:
As we have discussed in recent phone conversations, Chevron is interested in performing a field test J
of the BAT system at the above referenced site. Tis objective of this field test s t o
determine the effectiveness of the BAT system as a means of investigating and monitoring subsurface
groundwater contamination at service station sites. The results of this field test will be considered
by Chevron in evaluating the practical use of the BAT.system. The results of this field test will also
be made known to environmental regulatory agencies in an effort to secure their familiarity with and
confidence in the data provided by the BAT system.
I have enclosed three reports which supply information regarding the site chosen for the field test.
The reports are listed below. Let me know if more information is needed.
"Monitoring Well Installation", Western Geologic .Resources, April 13, 1989
"Workplan for Additional Monitoring Well Installations", Groundwater Technology,
June 1990
"Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report"; Alton Geoscience;September 21, 1990 d #
In order for Chevron to obtain the required permits from San Joaquin County for installation of the
BAT system, Earth Technology must submitan addendumto the enclosed workplan which was
prepared by Chevron's consultant, Groundwater Technology, Incorporated (GTI). The addendum
should be sent to Chevron, and Chevron will forward a,copy to the appropriate regulatory agencies.
GTI will apply for the permits once the addendum has been submitted.
Chevron requests that the field test be composed,of two phases performed concurrently. The
workplan addendum should describe worksteps involved in both phases. Phase 1 will serve to ( I
compare the results obtained from the BAT system with results obtained from standard groundwater
monitoring wells. Phase 2 will: entail the use of the.'BAT system to determine the extent, of
contaminant plumer migration. 1
w
. _ I
