Ms. Lori Duncan S E C O R
May 27, 2005
Page 4
groundwater will be bailed from the drive rods, decanted from the bailer
into 40-m1 VOA vials, and capped. Each VOA vial will be checked to
ensure no bubbles are present, labeled, placed on ice, and transported
to the laboratory under chain-of-custody documentation. The drive rods
will be retracted, leaving the disposable drive tip and 4 foot length of
PVC well screen in the hole.
• Soil Selection and Sample Analysis. Soil samples from each of the
soil borings will be collected at five-or ten-foot intervals (depending on
drill rig capability) and will be sent under chain-of-custody protocol to a
California state-certified laboratory. Soil samples showing positive
readings on a photo-ionization detector (PID) and/or at least three soil
samples from each boring will be analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
total xylenes (BTEX), methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-amyl
methyl ether (TAME), di-isopropyl ether (DIPS), ethyl tertiary butyl ether
(EtBE), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene,
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide (EDB), methanol,
and ethanol by EPA Method 82608. Hydropunch groundwater samples
will be analyzed for the same compounds.
• Well Installation. New groundwater monitoring well MW-10 will be
installed in the same manner as the replacement monitoring wells
previously proposed.
• Soil and Water Disposal. Soil cuttings and water generated during
drilling operations and well development will temporarily be stored on-site
in California Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved 55-gallon
steel drums pending characterization and disposal. The drums will be
removed and transported by a licensed disposal contractor to an
appropriate treatment or disposal facility. Soil cuttings and rinsate/purge
water drums will be temporarily stored on-site for approximately 2 to 4
weeks.
• Report. Following the completion of well installation activities, SECOR
will submit a report documenting the findings of the investigation. The
report will include soil boring logs, soil and groundwater analytical results,
chain-of-custody documentation, and conclusions/recommendations.
SCHEDULE
SECOR is prepared to initiate the coordination of fieldwork activities after the Chevron
station rebuild is complete, upon approval of the work plan for site assessment by the
SJCEHD, and following the receipt of necessary permits. A report documenting the
completion of this scope of work will be submitted approximately six to eight weeks
following the completion of fieldwork activities and upon receipt of laboratory analytical
data.
