ARCO #2133 Page 3
As part of the soil remediation system, five vapor extraction wells are planned to be
installed in areas of extensively documented soil contamination. PHS/EHD requested
that, while awaiting Air Pollution permitting, ARCO investigate the boundaries of soil
contamination. This information would provide two benefits, first if contamination is
detected, ARCO could then adapt the remediation system to increase system size and
second, if no contamination is detected, ARCO could be assured that the proposed
remediation system would be sized adequately.
Please submit a work plan to define the extent of soil contamination by September 30,
1992.' The work plan may include the provision, if contamination is encountered, to
install vapor extraction and/or monitoring wells.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Mary Meays, REHS,
of my staff at (209) 468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D., M.P.H.
Health Officer.
Laurie A.
