The sampling is accotnplished according to an alterweing schedule. The first
and third quarter sampling events sample eight of the fifteen wells located at the site. The
second and fourth quarter sampling events sample all fifteen wells. This alternating schedule
was chosen so as to give a representative picture of the groundwater contamination problem
and to be as cost-effective a's possible.
On December 4 and 5, 1989, Brown and Caldwell collected groundwater samples from eight
selected mwitoring wells at the subject site. The samples represent the third quarterly
sampling event of 1989 for the site.
Quarterly Sampling
Prior to sampli;tg wells PR--1, BHD-1, E-2,E-5, E-8, E-10, E-11, and E-12,.a diaphragm pump
(supplied by Armour Pettol-cum Services) was used to purge approximately three well casing
ach well was then sampled with a Teflon bailer equipped with
volumes of water from each. E
a bottom-emptying valve. The sample was then drained directly from the bottom valve into
two 40-millilite,, glass bottles with Tetlon-lin;d septa.
The samples were stored on ice from the time of collection through delivery to Brown and
Caldwell, Laboratories in Emeryville, Calirornia. All of the samples were analyzed for
benzene;ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylene (BETA) by 'U.S. Environmental Protection Abewy iZ
(EPA) Mithod 602. Results are summarized in Table 1. The ct}mplete laboratory reports are
enclosed. All groundwater produced during the sampling activity was stord on site pending
laboratory results and was subsequently removed from the site by ARCO,;
All sampling equipment was decontaminated before sampling each well. Equipment was
washed with labo,atery-grade detergent and rinsed with tap water. A final rinse was
1 com,11cted using dcionized water.
I
,I
723557REET SACM,AENTO.CALIFC)ANIAM14.71M•(8101444'ol27 -
