Mr Kyle Christie
December 11, 1995
Page 4
grab samples are taken at the system influent and effluent to ensure that the conditions of the
Authonty-to-Construct are met
Operating Conditions This Quarter During the third quarter of 1995, the GWES operated
100 percent of the time at an average flow rate of 2 3 gpm, extracting and discharging a total
of 333,215 gallons of groundwater The total amount of BTEX and TPH-G in the extracted
groundwater is shown in Table 4 The analytical results are included in Exhibit C The 4
quantity of BTEX and TPH-G discharged to the sewer is well within the limits stated in the
permit
The SVET system operated 100 percent of the time during the third quarter of 1995. The
system is currently configured to extract vapor from wells V-3 and V-12 which are located on
the northeast portion of the site Vacuum influence data were collected in September and are
presented on Figure 3 The data suggest that there is at least 0 10 inches of water column
vacuum influence in the area where a product release occurred in the second quarter of 1995
During the third quarter, the system extracted and treated approximately 2257 pounds
(364 gallons) of TPH-G and 43 1 pounds (5 9 gallons) of benzene, an increase of 60 4 percent
over the last quarter Table 5 presents a summary of the SVET system data and Table 6
summarizes the status of the individual soil vapor extraction and air sparging wells
iThe AS system did not operate from August 30 to September S, 1995 for system maintenance
During operation, the AS system functions within design parameters and delivers an average
of 3 4 cubic feet per minute (cfm) of sparge air into individual air sparging wells Air
sparging well data is presented in Table 6 As required by San Joaquin County, dissolved
oxygen readings are being collected for selected monitoring wells Dissolved oxygen
readings are presented in Table 7. Monitonng of dissolved oxygen levels for selected
monitoring wells will be conducted on a monthly basis
During the second quarter of 1995, a product line leak was discovered on the northern pump
island At the time of discovery, approximately 3 feet of free product thickness was
measured Upon discovery, ARCO immediately began removing free product from well E-10
using a disposable bailer Free product is removed once a week To date approximately 30
gallons of free product have been removed from well E-10, and the free product thickness has
decreased to approximately 13 feet The removed product is stored in a 55-gallon drum
contained in a plastic overpack drum which is secured inside the SVETS compound After
the free product thickness has been sufficiently reduced, a passive free product skimmer will
be installed in this well
• Use or disclosure of data continued on this sheet is subject to the restriction specified at the beginning of this
document
2060\REPORTWRD95QTR DOC
