APPENDLY A
STANDARD PROCEDURES
Quality assurance can be defined as a management program of planned and systematic
actions having the objective of providing adequate confidence that our services are performed in
accordance with our standards of professional practice and the requirements of our client Brown
and-Caldwell's (BC) quality assurance plan assigns quality assurance responsibilities to all staff
members BC's quahty assurance plan includes procedures for borehole drilling, soil sampling
during drilling, soil vapor extraction (SVE) and air sparging (AS) well installation, field activities,
and decontamination Field activities, decontamination, and sampling procedures are in the
following sections
Borehole Drilling
Boreholes will be drilled by a licensed drilling subcontractor using a truck-mounted drilling
rig equipped with nominal 8- or 10-inch-diameter hollow-stem augers Boreholes will be drilled
to a predetermined depth below the ground surface Borehole depths will be based on site
conditions, Including but not limited to, conditions such as depth to water and site geology
To prevent cross contamination during drilling, all equipment will be steam-cleaned prior
to and between use at each borehole
Soil Sampling During Drilling
Soil samples will be collected during the drilling operations for three reasons (1) for field
identification of the borehole lithology, (2) for qualitative field screening for the presence of
contaminants, and (3) possible laboratory analysis
For purposes of collecting soil samples for lithologic identification and for field screening,
a sample from each borehole will be collected every 5 feet The soil samples will be examined
in the field and classified according to the Unified Soil Classification system In addition to
evaluating the borehole lithology, the soil samples will be screened in the field with a
photoionization detector (PID) or similar instrument, and the relative permeability of the soil will
be qualitatively estimated The lithology, PID reading, and estimated permeability of each
sample will be recorded on the borehole log next to the depth interval from which the sample
was obtained Selected soil samples will be submitted to a California State Certified laboratory
for analysis of benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and total xylenes, and total petroleum
hydrocarbons using the Environmental Protection Agency Methods 503018020, and 8015
Modified
Use or disclosure of data contained on this sheet is subject to the restriction specified at the beginning of this
document 15WREPORMWORKPLAN
