Brown ann Cafdwed
Irk
i
'acramento y
41
January 27, 1992
Mr. Saed Sadredin
Assistant Manager
San Joaquin County Air Pollution Control District
2321 West Washington, Suite I '
Stockton, California 95201 017-6660-02/1
Subject: Vapor Extraction Pilot Test Plan of Soil Containing Petroleum Hydrocarbons.
ARCO Station 2133, Stockton. California
Dear Mr. Sadredin:
Brown and Caldwell Consultants (BCC) is planning to conduct a soil vapor extraction pilot test
at ARCO Products Company (ARCO) Station 2133 located at 2908 Benjamin Hoit Drive it. i
Stockton, California. The purpose of a pilot vapor extraction test is to: (1) determine the
feasibility of designing a soil vapor extraction and treatment system, and (2) determine the
concentrations of gasoline based hydrocarbons, tetraethyl lead, and chlorinated'solvents in the soil f
vapor. This letter represents our soil vapor extraction pilot test plan.
I
Pilot Test Equipment
The equipment that will be used to conduct the pilot test consists of a portable vacuum pump '
driven by a 5-horsepower motor. A trailer-mounted generator, driven by a diesel engine, will
provide electrical power to the motor. The vacuum pump assembly and generator equipment will
be provided by BCC. Soil vapors will be extracted from four vapor extraction wells.
Proposed Pilot Test Schedule
We are proposing to conduct the pilot test some time during the week of February 10, 1992. We
do not anticipate conducting the test for more than one day.
Emission Control
Hydrocarbon emissions to the atmosphere will be controlled with granular activated carbon
(GAC). Two 55-gallon GAC units will be placed in series at the discharge of the vacuum pump. '
A portable organic vapor meter will be used to monitor the GAC units for breakthrough. If
breakthrough occurs, either fresh GAC units will be installed, or the test will be terminated.
6660,C0RREsPJX66=i
