(Delta), has been authorized by Exxon Company, U.S.A., to
investigate the extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil at Exxon Retail Station No. 7-3330, located
at 3128 West Benjamin Holt Drive, Stockton, California_ This letter report describes the field
investigation and presents analytical results for soil samples collected on duly 15, 1993. The location
of the site is shown in Figure 1 and site features are illustrated in Figure 2. All work conducted at
the site by Delta was performed in accordance with the methods and procedures described in
Enclosure A.
Background
The site was operated as an Exxon service station from 1968 until the station was demolished in
September 1991. Three underground fuel storage tanks, one underground waste oil tank, and the
associated piping were removed from the site in October 1991. On May 30, 1992, 12 soil samples
were collected from an excavation at the former pump island location. Analytical results indicated
that soil samples collected from the east and south sidewalls of the excavation at the former pump
island location contained concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline ranging
from 25 to 210 parts per million (ppm).
Ten soil samples were collected from the sidewalls of the former underground gasoline storage tank
excavation on April 4, 1992. The samples were submitted to a certified analytical laboratory for
analyses of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX), and TPH as gasoline. Concentrations
of BTEX and TPH were not detected in these samples with the following exceptions: two soil samples
collected from the southwest corner of the excavation contained relatively low concentrations of
benzene (0.0081 ppm and 0.0091 ppm) and xylenes (0.013 ppm and 0.0091 ppm). On
April 11, 1992, additional soil was removed from the sidewalls of the excavation. Further
information regarding this work can be found in the Soil Remediation Report, by Artesian
Environmental Consultants, July 1992.
Delta Delivers Solutions
