Ms. Maria Guensler
Exxon Company, U.S.A.
September 14, 1993
Page 3
Analytical test results indicate that the soil sample collected from soil boring SB-5 at a depth of
11 feet contained benzene (0.1 ppm) and xylenes (0.05 ppm), and the soil sample collected from soil
boring SB-6 at a depth of 11 feet contained benzene (0.011 ppm). Petroleum hydrocarbons were not
present in detectable concentrations in the other soil samples.
Discussion of Results
Over excavation work at the former underground gasoline storage tank location performed on
April 11, 1992, appears to have removed soil containing petroleum hydrocarbons. This statement
is based on the fact that petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in soil samples collected in
July 1993 from soil borings drilled adjacent to the former underground gasoline storage tank location.
Residual concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons identified in soil samples collected from the
sidewalls of the former pump island excavation appear to have volatilized during the time that the
excavation was opened. This statement is based on the fact that petroleum hydrocarbons were only
detected at slight concentrations in two of the ten soil samples collected in July 1993 from soil
borings drilled adjacent to the former excavation.
Based on the results of this investigation, Delta concludes that soil remediation has been completed
at the site. Final delineation of the petroleum hydrocarbon plume in ground water will proceed
following receipt of the laboratory chemical analyses results from samples collected on
September 7, 1993.
Remarks/Signatures
The interpretations contained in this report represent our professional opinions, and are based in part
on information supplied by the client. These opinions are based on currently available information
and are arrived at in accordance with currently accepted hydrogeologic and engineering practices at
this time and location. Other than this, no warranty is implied or intended.
