Site Characterization:Clover idle School,51 East Beverly Place, Tracy, CA. Page 8
of the other fuel oxygenates for which analyses were made were detected in
any of the soil or groundwater samples.
4.0 CONCLUSIONS
As discussed above, the site characterization program described herein found
no evidence that groundwater beneath the subject property has been affected by
any detectable components of gasoline. Also, none of the soil samples
recovered during the site characterization contained any detectable
concentrations of components of gasoline. The very low concentration of
components of fuel hydrocarbons detected in samples of soil and groundwater
from a boring drilled "adjacent to the tank pit" in September 1985 have either
been remediated by natural bioremediation and attenuation or are confined to
such a small zone of the subsurface that they were not detected in the boring
drilled during the investigation reported herein. SJC's investigation included a
K boring drilled a short distance down gradient of the former location of the tank
pit and another that penetrated from the upgradient side of the pit into the
ground immediately beneath it. The latter boring also passed through the
'~ ground beneath the former location of the fuel dispensing island, but no
evidence was found that leaking fuel had affected the subsurface in that area.
We conclude that there is no evidence that gasoline or any of its components,
including any of the BTEX compounds, EDB, MTBE or any other fuel
oxygenates have significantly affected soil or groundwater beneath the Alfred
Clover Middle School property at 51 East Beverly Place and that the minor
traces of hydrocarbons previously detected in a single boring drilled "adjacent
to the tank pit"are of less than de minimus significance.
5.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
" Based on the results of the subsurface investigation reported herein, we
conclude that the environmental condition of soil and groundwater in the area
imw around the former site of the 550-gallon underground gasoline storage tank has
been adequately investigated. We recommend that no further work be
undertaken and that the site be closed according to the procedure described
below.
6.0 REQUEST FOR SITE CLOSURE
Given the absence of any evidence that the underground storage tank formerly
located beneath the subject property has significantly affected soil or
groundwater, it is herby requested that the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services — Environmental Health Division apply to the California Regional
Water Quality Control Board — Central Valley Region for closure of the
property at the Alfred Clover Middle School, 51 East Beverly Place, Tracy,
sic
