(AGE) on your behalf for the above-referenced site.
By letter dated 01 April 2011, the EHD had conditionally approved Crawl Space Air
Investigation Work Plan, dated 28 February 2011, to address collecting air samples at your
site.
In the report, AGE presented the analytical results from collecting an air sample from the
crawl space beneath the dwelling at the above-referenced site, and two ambient air samples
from the southwest and southeast areas of the backyard of this residency. The air samples
were collected in Summa canisters over a period of approximately 22 to 24 hours.
Analytical results for the crawl space sample were reported with total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) at 680 micrograms per cubic meter (Ng/m3), benzene at
0.53 ug/m3, and ethylbenzene at 1.2 pg/m3, all above the Environmental Screening Levels
(ESLs) of 10 Ng/m3, 0.084 pg/m3, and 0.98 Ng/m3, respectively. Toluene was detected at
low concentrations in all three air samples and xylene was detected at low concentrations in
the crawl space sample. Based on these results, AGE proposes to collect duplicate air
samples in the crawl space beneath the residency and analyze these samples and an air
sample field blank to evaluate the accuracy and precision of the original crawl space
analytical results. If the confirmation crawl space air samples are detected with high
concentrations of contaminants of concern, then AGE proposes to collect an indoor air
sample at the residency.
During a telephone conversation between AGE and the EHD on 19 August 2011, AGE
proposed entering the highest concentrations detected from the previous and proposed
crawl space sampling events into RISC V software to assess the human health cancer risk.
