YJ
s
10 September 1996
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0106
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (see Boring Logs, Appendix B).
3.2.3. WELL COMPLETION
Borings were completed as 2-inch diameter ground water monitoring wells using schedule 40 PVC
casing with 0.02-inch slotted screen from approximately 5 to 25 feet bsg. The filter pack was
installed using #2 Lonestar sand from 4 to 25 feet. Bentonite chips were used to make a one-foot
plug and the remaining annular space was backfilled to the surface with Portland cement.
A traffic-rated well box (8- or 12-inch diameter) was installed over each well, in accordance with
County regulations. As-built monitoring well diagrams are depicted in Appendix C.
3.3. MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
3.3.1. WELL DEVELOPMENT AND PURGING
. On 09 July 1996, a Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in each
well relative to the top of the well casings. After ground water depth measurements were collected,
each monitoring well was purged using a two-stage submersible pump. Approximately 20 gallons
of water (minimum of 3 well volumes) were evacuated from each well. Temperature, pH and
conductivity were measured at 2-gallon intervals using an ICM model 52200 water analyzer.
Stabilization data and field logs are included in Appendix D. Purged water was stored in 55-gallon
drums temporarily on-site.
3.3.2. COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were collected from each monitoring well using new disposable bailers. The samples
were transferred into 40-m1 EPA vials containing hydrochloric acid as a preservative. The samples
were transported in a chilled container, under ice, to MAI and analyzed for TPH-g, total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gas(TPH-g), BTE&X and methyl-tett-butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance
with EPA method 5030/8015m, 602 and 602, respectively.
