iHYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
s VOLUME ASSUMPTIONS AND CALCULATIONS
' Based on the average hydrocarbon concentration of TPH-g and benzene in impacted soil samples
collected at the site, the following calculation for hydrocarbon-impacted soil remaining on the site
' has been made.
The hydrocarbon impacted soil samples recovered from the site had the following concentrations of
petroleum quantified as gasoline and benzene:
Sam 1'eeID 4 ..TPH ;Benzenen Sa le ID TPH. 3 Benzene
:F
S-118' 5,800 54 P1-6' 2,400 2.8
' N-1/8.5' 4,300 51 P3-6' 2,800
W-118' 2,500 27 P6-5' 15
' E 118' 1,800 9.1 MW1-10 1,500 8.4
' B13-6 330
' Unweighted Average Concentration 2,383 25.4
The assumed, unweighted average concentration of petroleum quantified as gasoline from analyzed
' samples is 2,383 mg/kg. The assumed, unweighted average concentration of benzene from analyzed
samples is 25.4 mg/kg.
' The volume was calculated from soil sample data and the assumed weight of the impacted soil. A
total volume of 1,422 yard of soil are assumed to be impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons with an
' average concentration of 2,383 milligrams per kilogram of gasoline and 44.2 milligrams per
kilogram of benzene.
' Calculation:
volume of hydrocarbon- impacted soil:
assuming area of impacted soil is elliptical in shape:
-n(short radius of impacted area)(long radius of impacted area) = area of impacted sail
' -area of impacted soil-depth of contamination (assumed 8 feet) =volume of impacted soil
(yard')
-volume of impacted soil -previously excavated hydrocarbon-impacted soil=net volume
' of impacted soil.
assume 1 yard of soil c 1,225 kilograms of soil
Advanced CeoEnviron rental,Inc.
